Curriculum del Prof. K. Srinath Reddy
Prof. K. Srinath Reddy is currently Chair of the World Heart Federation’s Foundation Advisory Board (2007-2010). He is President of the Public Health Foundation of India and till recently headed the Department of Cardiology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). He has been involved in several major international and national research studies including the INTERSALT global study of blood pressure and electrolytes, Indian Council of Medical Research commissioned national collaborative studies on Epidemiology of Coronary Heart Disease and Community Control of Rheumatic Heart Disease and INTERHEART global study on risk factors of myocardial infarction. He is Coordinator of the Initiative for Cardiovascular Health Research in the Developing Countries, a global partnership programme which serves to strengthen research related to prevention of cardiovascular diseases in the developing countries. He has served on many WHO expert panels. He edited the National Medical Journal of India for 10 years and is on editorial board of several international and national journals. He has more than 250 scientific publications in international and Indian peer reviewed-journals. He has also organized school based health education programmes, under the HRIDAY-SHAN programme which he initiated in 1992. HRIDAY won international recognition for its innovative programmes of health awareness and advocacy, was awarded the WHO Global Tobacco Free World Award in 2002, organized the first ever Global Youth Meet on Health (GYM 2006) in New Delhi and facilitated the launch of the Youth For Health (Y4H) global network for health advocacy and action.
Chair of the Scientific Committee of the 14th World Conference on Tobacco or Health, Professor Reddy has long advocated that cardiologists take a strong role in promoting tobacco control. He represented India in inter-governmental treaty negotiations on the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) and the Conference of Parties of that treaty.  In recognition for the key role he has played in championing tobacco control, Prof. Reddy has received the WHO Director General’s Award for Global Leadership in Tobacco Control and the American Cancer Society Luther Terry Award for exemplary achievement in the field of tobacco control.
