His first faculty appointment was in the Cardiology Section of the Department of Medicine at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. His research has focused on the application of physics to the study of cardiovascular medicine.

He was the recipient of an Established Investigator’s Award from the American Heart Association and has served as editor of the journal Lasers in Medical Science.
