- Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery - Barcelona University
- Medical Doctor - Barcelona University
- First not resident North American Investigator in receiving the award of Investigation of the American School of Cardiologists (ACC) in the year 1991
- With his brother Pedro he described the Brugada Syndrome and then with his brother Ramón he described it´s genetic cause identifying the responsible mutations
- Associated Professor at the Department of Medicine- Barcelona University from 1998
- He created the Cardiac Electrophysiology Unit at the Barcelona Clinic Hospital, also he was the Thorax Institute Director and the Cardiology Service Chief in the same hospital
- At present Dr. Josep Brugada is the Medical Director of the Barcelona Clinic Hospital
