According to the Framingham study, moderate and high physical activity increased life expectancy similarly in men and women. In a cohort of 18,892 Finnish people (8928 men), the joint assessment of physical activity and obesity by any of the main indexes (body mass index –BMI-, waist circumference –WC- and Waist/Hip Ratio –WHR-) improved the predictive value of cardiovascular risk, especially in men. From these data it can be inferred that the Nurses' Health Study and the Women's Health Study are extrapolated to men.
