Hypertension is a public health problem of epidemic magnitude. The elevation of the tensional levels produces cardiovascular, renal and cerebrovascular complications, which cause incapacity and death. This study was performed with the aim of describing the principal causes of death in hypertensive patient at Enrique Cabrera Hospital during 2010. 108 protocols of post- mortem examinations were analyzed and the result was that 60 were male. 71,3% of total of the studied patient were older than 65 years old and 46,3 % died in the Intensive Care Unit. 30 of these patients were also diabetic. The principal causes of death in these patients were myocardial infarction, isquemic encephalic vascular accidents, bronchopneumonia and cerebral haemorrhage.
